What is the best way to store BRITA filtered water?
You should ideally store your jug with BRITA filtered water in a cool place, e.g. in the fridge. You should also avoid direct sunlight and use the water within one to two days.
How often should I replace the MAXTRA+ filter cartridge?
For optimum results, replace your filter every 150L or 4 weeks based on average household size drinking 8 glasses per day.

How do the filters and filter cartridges work?
The actual filtration works through the force of gravity: the water flows down through the cartridge containing a mixture of Ion Exchange Pearls and Micro Carbon Pearls. As soon as it comes into contact with the Ion Exchange Pearls in the cartridge, they bind and reduce the carbonate hardness of the water, as well as any metals such as lead and copper that may possibly be present in household pipes. Meanwhile, the Micro Carbon Pearls, made from the carbon in coconut shells, largely remove substances such as chlorine and chlorine compounds that impair the taste of drinking water.
What is the filter/cartridge made of and are the contents safe?
The filter material of the MAXTRA+ contains a mixture of ion exchange resins and activated micro carbon pearls that has been tested to food grade quality, and if accidentally consumed, will be harmless to health.
How do I prepare my BRITA water filter cartridge?
- Fill your jug or a bowl with water.
- Immerse your cartridge in the water and shake vigorously from side to side to circulate water within your cartridge and to remove all air bubbles for about 1 minute.
- Insert the cartridge firmly in your funnel.
- Filter and discard the first two litres of filtered water.
- Your filter is now ready to use.
